We strongly support the Protect America’s Workforce Act
(H.R. 2250) because it defends the rights of more than a million federal
employees whose voices and livelihoods are under attack. Federal workers keep
our country running—from inspecting our food to safeguarding public health—and
they deserve the same dignity, stability, and union protections as any other
American worker. This legislation is a crucial step toward restoring fairness
and accountability in government workplaces.
In recent years, President Donald Trump has taken unprecedented actions to
weaken federal unions. His proposed “Schedule F” plan would reclassify large
numbers of career employees as at-will political appointees, stripping them of
job security and collective bargaining rights. Even more alarming, he has
issued executive orders instructing agencies to ignore existing union
contracts—first targeting nearly one million workers and later expanding to
cover hundreds of thousands more. These moves threaten to roll back the most
extensive set of worker protections in U.S. history.
Without union contracts, federal employees would be left vulnerable to
political retaliation, sudden firings, and shifting demands from whichever
administration is in power. That is not only unjust to workers—it undermines
the stability and effectiveness of government itself. The services Americans
rely on every day depend on a workforce that is free from political coercion
and protected by fair labor agreements.
H.R. 2250 directly addresses this crisis. The bill will overturn Trump’s
executive orders, restore collective bargaining agreements, and reaffirm
federal employees' rights to organize and negotiate their working conditions.
On December 11, 2025, the House of Representatives passed the Protect
America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2550) by a bipartisan vote of 231–195,
demonstrating that this argument is already persuading lawmakers. The choice
before Congress is now simple: either allow the largest rollback of union
rights in American history to stand, or complete the work the House has begun
by passing the Protect America’s Workforce Act and securing fair treatment for
the people who serve our nation every day. We urge the Senate to act quickly
and send this bill to the President without delay. Federal workers—and the
American public who depend on them—cannot afford to wait.
