Drop the Genocide 20 is a newly launched political accountability campaign
targeting 20 former Biden administration officials over their roles in U.S.
policy toward Israel and Gaza. The campaign accuses these officials of helping
promote, defend, or cover up actions in Gaza that its organizers characterize
as genocide, and argues that senior policymakers should face professional and
political consequences for their decisions.
The list includes former Secretary of State Antony Blinken, National Security
Adviser Jake Sullivan, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, U.N. Ambassador Linda
Thomas-Greenfield, USAID Administrator Samantha Power, White House official
Brett McGurk, and 14 other former officials.
Rather than seeking a legal penalty, the campaign asks elected officials,
universities, think tanks, media organizations, and other institutions to
pledge not to hire, consult with, promote, or return the targeted officials to
positions of political or institutional power. Organizers describe this as an
effort to break what they call a recurring “cycle of elite immunity,” in which
senior U.S. officials involved in controversial wars and foreign-policy
decisions later return to influential government, academic, media, and policy
positions without meaningful accountability.
The campaign acknowledges that responsibility for U.S. Gaza policy extended
well beyond these 20 people, but says the list was deliberately limited to
provide the effort with a clear and workable focus. Among the organizations
participating in the coalition are
Peace Action, the
Palestinian Youth Movement, Track
AIPAC, Democratic Socialists of America,
and About Face, an antiwar
veterans organization.
The Drop the Genocide 20 website presents the complete list of officials,
explains the campaign's case against them, and provides the pledge for
individuals and organizations that want to support its accountability effort.
