On November 02, 2023, The U.N. General Assembly voted on the United States' economic and trade embargo against Cuba following the revolution led by Fidel Castro and the nationalization of properties belonging to U.S. citizens and corporations in 1960. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said it constitutes "a crime of genocide" and an "act of economic warfare during times of peace." Citing that the American aim is to weaken Cuba's economic life, leave its people hungry and desperate, and eventually overthrow their government. With the only votes coming from the United States and Israel supporting the embargo, the rest of the U.N. General Assembly overwhelmingly voted against it. Somalia, Venezuela, and Moldova chose not to vote, and Ukraine alone abstained. With 187 votes in favor of ending it and only two against it, this outcome challenges the United States to lift the embargo finally.
