STOP THE PERSECUTION OF ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS

 BY THE UKRAINE GOVERNMENT

An Upcoming Rada Vote Could Close Down Churches

Orthodox Christianity has existed in Ukraine for over 1000 years. It survived the Mongol invasion and the persecutions of Stalin.

Unfortunately, it may not survive a ruthless campaign of persecution by the Zelensky government.

Back in 2018 the Ukrainian government created a state-controlled church, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.  This puppet "church" repeats Zelensky propaganda.

Since 2022 Zelensky has tried to crush the original, independent Orthodox Church in Ukraine, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.  It is part of a pattern of crushing civil liberties. Zelensky has all too frequently tried to accuse his political opponents and independent media outlets as being tools of Moscow.

The Ukrainian Orthodox Church claims to support Ukraine in its efforts wholly and has severed all ties it has to Russia; However, Ukrainian authorities still accuse the UOC of continuing to collaborate. Many clergy have faced harassment, intimidation, sanctions, and imprisonment as a result of this ordeal. An upcoming vote by parliament of Ukraine could effectively close down the church despite it being Ukraine's principal religious body for centuries.

It's time for western powers who claim to be fighting for "freedom" in Ukraine to demand that this persecution stop.   Aid should be conditional on restoring civil liberties to Ukraine.
