It was a tragedy when 3,000 people were killed in 9/11. And yet the fact that 21,000 people die every day from poverty barely makes the news.
Also, an estimated 6.2 million children under the age of 15 years die every year due to poverty and global inequality. (World Health Organization).
And unfortunately the pandemic, global conflict, and climate change have made matters worse, as we will discuss more below.
Death Toll From Hunger:
When looking at the global death toll from poverty, we also need to analyze the number of people killed by hunger.
9 Million people die every year from hunger, according to the World Food Programme.
And this counter shows that millions of people have died so far from hunger this year.

And unfortunately this situation is getting worse due to the pandemic and climate change. The climate emergency, armed conflicts, and the Covid-19 pandemic have pushed over 100 million more people into hunger around the world during the past few years, five United Nations agencies revealed in a report. The report estimates that hunger affected between 691 million and 783 million people last year, with a mid-range of 735 million—or 122 million more than 2019, before the public health disaster.
