On September 10th, around 22,000 children got killed by poverty, no one cared. On Sept. 11 3,000 people died from terrorist attack. Everyone was outraged.

Globally 4 million people have died from Covid 19. And this is indeed a major tragedy that people have a right to be outraged about.

Yet we don't see the same level of outrage for the 3 million children who have died from poverty in 2021.

Or the 5 million people who died from hunger in 2021.

An estimated 6.2 million children under the age of 15 years die every year. Mostly from preventable causes. (The World Counts, 2021)

According to UNICEF, in 2013, 22,000 children died each day from poverty. (Global Issues, 2013)

And that was in 2013. The statistics on poverty and mortality world wide have gotten far worse since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic (World Bank (PDF).

Oxfam's report, ‘The Inequality Virus,’ shows that rising inequality means it could take at least 14 times longer for the number of people living in poverty to return to pre-pandemic levels than it took for the fortunes of the top 1,000 billionaires to bounce back.
