On October 16, 2025, hundreds gathered at Berlin’s Alexanderplatz for a solemn rally honoring Hind Rajab, a five-year-old Palestinian girl whose tragic death became a symbol of Gaza’s suffering. In January 2024, Hind was trapped in her family’s car in Gaza City after Israeli gunfire killed her mother, grandmother, uncle, aunt, and three cousins as they tried to flee fighting. Terrified, she called rescuers for help, but when ambulances later reached the site, Hind was found dead inside the bullet-riddled car beside her slain relatives. At the Berlin rally, a damaged vehicle was placed in the square to represent that scene, surrounded by candles, white roses, and mourners. A young girl spoke in German as if she were Hind, asking, “Why? Who will protect me?” The event ended with a moment of silence and the release of white balloons bearing the names of other children killed in Gaza, turning Alexanderplatz into a space of remembrance and quiet defiance.
