THE PROTECT AMERICA’S WORKFORCE ACT

We strongly support the Protect America’s Workforce Act (H.R. 2250) because it defends the rights of more than a million federal employees whose voices and livelihoods are under attack. Federal workers keep our country running—from inspecting our food to safeguarding public health—and they deserve the same dignity, stability, and union protections as any other American worker. This legislation is a crucial step toward restoring fairness and accountability in government workplaces.

In recent years, President Donald Trump has taken unprecedented actions to weaken federal unions. His proposed “Schedule F” plan would reclassify large numbers of career employees as at-will political appointees, stripping them of job security and collective bargaining rights. Even more alarming, he has issued executive orders instructing agencies to ignore existing union contracts—first targeting nearly one million workers and later expanding to cover hundreds of thousands more. These moves threaten to roll back the most extensive set of worker protections in U.S. history.

Without union contracts, federal employees would be left vulnerable to political retaliation, sudden firings, and shifting demands from whichever administration happens to be in power. That is not only unjust to workers—it undermines the stability and effectiveness of government itself. The services Americans rely on every day depend on a workforce that is free from political coercion and protected by fair labor agreements.

H.R. 2250 directly addresses this crisis. The bill would overturn Trump’s executive orders, restore collective bargaining agreements, and reaffirm the right of federal employees to organize and negotiate over their working conditions. With strong bipartisan support already building in Congress, it represents a commonsense solution to protect both workers and the integrity of our government.

The choice before lawmakers is simple: either allow the largest rollback of union rights in American history to stand, or pass the Protect America’s Workforce Act and secure fair treatment for the people who serve our nation every day. We urge Congress to act quickly and pass H.R. 2250 without delay. Federal workers—and the American public who depend on them—cannot afford to wait.
