GAZA: A FOREVER WAR

A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT VIOLENCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY

Gaza: A Forever War brings together a small group of influential voices to explain and challenge how the war in Gaza is understood. The documentary is led by investigative journalist John Lyons, who questions political and military figures about the scale of the war, civilian deaths, and whether the conflict has become open-ended rather than aimed at resolution.

The film features interviews with senior Israeli political leaders, including former Prime Minister Ehud Barak, who present Israel’s justification for the war as an act of self-defense following the October 7 attacks. These interviews give viewers direct insight into how Israeli decision-makers explain their strategy and defend the scope of military action.

Offering a Palestinian perspective, the documentary includes Abdaljawad Omar, a scholar at Birzeit University, who places the war within the broader history of occupation and repeated violence against Palestinians. His analysis challenges official narratives by focusing on long-term consequences for Palestinian civilians and society.

The film also features Yehuda Shaul, a former Israeli soldier and co-founder of Breaking the Silence, an organization of Israeli veterans who speak publicly about military conduct in the occupied territories. Shaul provides an internal Israeli critique rooted in firsthand experience rather than external opposition.

Finally, Amira Hass, a veteran Israeli journalist with Haaretz, brings decades of reporting from Gaza and the West Bank. Her perspective centers on everyday life under bombardment and blockade, grounding the documentary in the human cost of the conflict.

Together, these interviews present official power, internal dissent, Palestinian analysis, and frontline journalism, helping explain why the Gaza war remains unresolved. Although a ceasefire took hold in October 2025, reducing large-scale military operations, the conflict has not formally ended. Continued instability, periodic violence, and the absence of a political settlement mean the questions raised in Gaza: A Forever War remain urgent and unsettled.
