DC Joy Day is a
community-centered rally and celebration organized by Free DC, a grassroots
campaign advocating for self-governance and political autonomy for Washington,
D.C. The event will take place on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 3:00
PM to 8:00 PM at Anacostia Park, Field 6, located at 1500 Anacostia
Dr, Washington, DC 20020. It is designed as a joyful alternative to a proposed
presidential military parade in downtown D.C., reframing the day as one of
community strength, cultural pride, and resistance to authoritarian displays
of power.
DC Joy Day features free food for the first 500
guests, fresh produce, and community grilling. Families are welcome to bring
blankets, snacks, and picnic supplies. Free shuttles run from the Anacostia
Metro station every 30 minutes, with group bike rides departing from Nationals
Park at 2 PM.
Activities include live music, Go-Go bands, line
dancing, and a family zone with games, crafts, kite flying, and free books.
The event also offers teach-ins on the D.C. Home Rule, meditation sessions,
and info from community partners and the Free DC campaign.
